Narissa I Won’t / Sweet Things

Before Mike and Paul head off to Europe on tour with Allo Darlin’ this month, news of a downloadable treat..

The lovely brains behind the Where It’s At Is Where You Are record label insisted we be their free download singles band for August, and we duly obliged with ‘Narissa I Won’t'/’Sweet Things’. Originally slated for a 2009 7-inch split release with old Haircut labelmates Esiotrot, things didn’t work out that way and ‘Narissa’ appeared on a couple of compilations soon after that.

This WIAIWYA release completes the package as intended has the proper cover and accompanying B-side. Whilst we plan a strictly limited physical version on Haircut Records, hop over to WIAIWYA to get your FREE mp3s, and check out their excellent roster of bands.

High quality format of the single in FLAC, Apple Lossless and top-end mp3 are available to buy on our Bandcamp page from 1st August.

Something Strange.. video anti-freeze

We shot a video for our last single SSBTS when the snow last fell. After arriving at a secret location in Kent we got extremely cold on the hill, then just a little bit warmer in the bunker afterwards.. Thanks to Sam and Joel Ely who helped us film when it almost all went belly up, and to Duncan Barrett of Crayonlegs, who finished it all off.

Hexicon – Something Strange Beneath The Stars

The Blossom Sighs Arrives!

Hexicon’s first studio album is released Monday 21st June 2010. Get it now.

Well, Mike and Paul have just returned from the USA where they played a bunch of shows with Allo Darlin. If you’d like to see what went on, you can check out Nik Vestberg’s blog here http://recordsmakegreatpets.blogspot.com/

Back to business with Hexicon. No sooner off the plane, Mike and Paul hit the road again with the rest of the band and head up to the Saki Bar in Manchester! The venue was really really hot, but we had lots of fun playing and sweating! It was great to hook up with old tour buddies The School too, and we headed straight back from Manchester to Cardiff to wait for our show on Sunday. We’re really looking forward to the show tonight with the fantastic Red Shoe Diaries and The School at the Buffalo Bar in Cardiff.

The final piece of good news in this little update is that the final finished beautifully packaged record is with us! If you are at one of our shows you can buy one for £10, or click on buy at the top of the page to pre-order. We had our first little review from the blog takethepills.net, view it here http://takethepills.net/?p=571

Yeehah!

23rd April @ Wilmington Arms

Hi there!

There’s been a delay with the artwork at the printers, so I’m afraid we’re not going to have the fully finished album at the Wilmington on the 23rd. However, we do have fully printed Promo copies to give away for free! for the first 30 people through the door on Friday.
The promos will be available for £2 after that to wet your appetite for the real deal later in the year.
Weeeee! Hope to see you on Friday..

Hexicon Album Launch, 23rd April

This time it’s personal…

So our record is in the very final throws of being lovely and complete. It’s been a real mission to get it over the finish line, but the artwork looks incredible and we wanted to take the time to get it just right. The ten track record ‘The Blossom Sighs’ will be available to buy from the Album Launch at the Wilmington Arms on Friday 23rd April. It should be an all star line up for the band featuring Greg Webster (who recorded the album) on additional percussion and guitar and other cameos from friends who played and sang on the record for us. Come come come!

Thanks to all who came along to see us!

A great big thanks to everyone who came along to see us for our shows in Scotland and Cardiff. We had loads of fun and managed to shift all the CD’s we took with us! (There are still some left though, so if you’d like one head over to the shop section of the website). Highlights aside from the shows included the three unplugged songs for the ‘Off The Beaten Tracks’ boys on the Meadows in Edinburgh, an awkward in-store at Avalanche (complete with people shuffling through CD’s whilst we played) and end of tour Karaoke from Andy ‘Mr Brightside’ Greive and Thomas ‘Temptation’ Allard.

In other news, we’ve had some radio play on Radio 1 & 2 and BBC6 Music. And you can read some reviews of ‘Stars’ here:

Our record ‘The Blossom Sighs’ is set for release later this year. Yay!

Did you like the capitalisation up in that title? I’m working on my jargon, with the goal of being included in ArtWank at some point. Let the following recontextualisation of melodies bring you into a space beyond analysis..
